Agenda Item: The Yom Kippur War

Details

The Yom Kippur War broke out in October 1973, when Egypt and Syria launched a surprise attack on Israel during Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. That opening move stunned Israel and shook up assumptions about military strength in the region. Israel rallied fast, pushing back with fierce counterattacks and heavy American backing. Still, those early Arab gains did more than just shift a battle line—they gave Egypt and Syria a burst of political confidence and forced everyone at the negotiating table to see the region differently. The fighting didn’t stay local, either. Oil prices shot up worldwide, and Cold War tensions spiked. By the time the dust settled, the Yom Kippur War had redrawn the map of Middle Eastern politics and left its mark on global affairs. The HUNSC Committee gives the delegates chance to comprehend middle east’s historical and contemporary dynamics and come up with solutions for this issue. By considering the viewpoints of regional guarantor nations and international actors, as well as the UN's activities in this area, this committee offers a forum for exchanging ideas on solutions. Participants will examine various solution scenarios, engage in talks for a peaceful resolution, and attempt to comprehend the historical as well as contemporary diplomatic and legal aspects of the Yom Kippur War.
