Welcome to our first committee, DISEC. This year we will be focusing on the agenda item which is “Evaluating the Role of Mandatory Military Service in the Global Militarization of Societies”. Compulsory military service is a system which is used in some states that assign citizens to military service for a specific period and provide them with basic training. This system, which ensures public safety with providing discipline and nationalism in individuals, will be viewed by the DISEC committee from various perspectives. Examples include: the legitimacy of the military, the conditions for compulsory or voluntary military service, potential modifications and improvements to compulsory military service to protect public integrity, and solutions to address the harms that this service inflicts on individuals.
